Immaculate Conception Takes Third Place at Future City NYC

From September through January, two groups of eighth grade ICS students experienced a crash course in city planning for the 2011-2012 National Engineers Week Future City Competition. The competition is a citywide event that challenges students to address present day city planning issues by designing a city of the future. A lot of work goes into the planning of these cities; students build a virtual city using a computer program, write a research essay explaining the science that goes into their city, and build a physical model of a section of their city. The process ended on January 14th when students from schools across the city presented their models and research to a panel of judges, and the team behind Immaculate Conception's city, New Muneris, took third place overall. We would like to congratulate the eighth graders who worked on both our cities: New Muneris and Blueskye. We also send out a special thank you to Mr. Pascarella, who supervised the teams, and Fred Niknamfard, our visiting engineer who volunteered his time and expertise.
